The David Austin rose bears the name of the English-born rose breeder who introduced over 190 roses to the general public during his career. He named his roses in honor of England’s geographical landmarks, historical events, and British writers or their characters.

Caring for English Roses

They are light-demanding plants and can be planted in partial shade, but they should receive at least 4-5 hours of sunlight. It’s also important not to plant them directly against a wall, as they don’t tolerate direct sunlight or rain shadow well.
Pruning David Austin Roses
During pruning, they can be shaped into medium-sized bushes through strong pruning or slightly pruned to grow as moderately tall climbers. The Teasing Georgia variety responds well to both of these pruning methods. Thanks to its branching, bushy growth, it fits nicely in rose beds, mixed borders, and can be trained as a low hedge or an attractive climber with support. If pruned as a climber, it’s advisable to remove weak, thin shoots from the base to allow it to cover a pergola more quickly.
Many English rose varieties can be trained into standard roses, which, due to their height, look exceptionally beautiful in park and garden flower beds. It is also beneficial to deadhead the faded flowers, promoting further blooming.
